Laser Grading

Laser grading is an operation that uses laser technology to grade surfaces like an infield skin to the desired slope.  The laser gets set on a fixed point and sends a laser beam to the receiver mounted on poles fixed to the box blade.  As the box blade is pulled across the infield skin, the receiver will direct the hydraulics to automatically move the blade up or down to provide a precise and consistent grade.  The end product creates positive surface drainage, helping minimize standing water while cutting down on rainouts. It also creates a smooth playing surface, which results in consistent hops.

Fertilizer & Herbicide Application

Implementing a comprehensive fertilization and herbicide maintenance program is critical to promoting turf density and improving field safety and playing conditions.  Proper fertilization results in dense dark green turf that is resistant to pests and environmental stresses.  Weeds in turf grass are unsightly and hinder turf density.  The proper application of herbicide is a must to achieve desirable results.

Deep Tine Aeration

Deep tine aeration is a beneficial maintenance practice that provides consistent results.  Heavy play and poor draining soil create substantial soil compaction.  Aeration encourages water infiltration, gas exchange, and deep root growth, which promote the overall health and safety of your turf.

Topdressing

Topdressing is the application of a uniform layer of sand or organic materials over the surface of a sports field.  It is used to smooth out uneven surfaces, help amend physical soil properties, increase water infiltration, and create a better growing environment. 

Verticutting & Sweeping

Verticutting or vertical mowing is the process of using vertical cutting blades to cut vertically through the turf canopy into the soil.  It removes thatch, allowing nutrients, seeds, fertilizer, and moisture to penetrate the soil. 

Sweeping the clippings is done to remove the dead material and keep it from settling back into the soil. Verticutting and sweeping will create a more even look and help the grass grow thicker and healthier.

Premium Top Grade

Premium top grade is a process that smooths and levels the surface of an athletic field.  Lower areas and undulations are removed by spreading and grading sand over the turf.  This maintenance process provides adequate top dressing of roughly a ½” on the level parts of the field.  Areas that are low or undulating will be filled in with sand, which will drop in and level the area.  A premium top grade will create a smoother, safer playing surface.
